      <image:title>Home - ABOUT mixed roots</image:title>
<image:caption>Mixed people carry lifelong embodied knowledge about existing in non-binary, intersectional worlds. Mixed Roots complicates the narrative around race and identity—dispelling narrow ideas that there is ever one “right” or singular way for folks to identify. Born out of a community of writers formed through Anne Liu Kellor’s Both/And writing workshop, Mixed Roots collects 29 personal essays infused with a deep examination of inherited belief systems, racism, whiteness, migration, families, ancestry, paradox, and healing. Society so often wants to divide us into either/or categories, but Mixed Roots says, my story is complex and can be told in a multitude of ways. In a time of increased polarization, Mixed Roots invites more of us to examine the historical legacies and harm caused by racism within ourselves and our communities. With compelling, intimate prose, the voices in Mixed Roots honor the realities we’ve inherited around race, at the same time that they push against old assumptions.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work with Me - mission and background</image:title>
<image:caption>Everyone has a story. I love to help others trust in their own essential voice and to make meaning from their experiences. As a facilitator and guide, I seek to create nourishing spaces where deep personal inquiry can meet a broader awareness of the larger systemic realities that shape our lives and how we are all interconnected. As an editor, I see myself as a collaborator with you, offering my intuitive and craft-based feedback, but reminding you that you are the authority on your own work - you get to decide what resonates or not. In my classes and as a coach, I encourage brave and vulnerable sharing through writing, listening, and witnessing. As we call forth specific memories and details and ask authentic questions, together we can seek to hold the messy complexity of our evolving selves— and each other— with compassion, kindness, and care.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I wanted to understand how my path was tied to my mother tongue. As a young, multiracial, American woman, I traveled through China, the country of my mother’s birth. Along the way, I tried on different roles—seeker, teacher, student, girlfriend, artist, and daughter— continually asking myself: Why am I called to make this journey? Whether witnessing a Tibetan sky burial, teaching English in Chengdu, visiting my grandmother in LA, or falling in love with a Chinese painter, at heart I sought intimacy with others, even as I was all too aware of my silences and separation.</image:caption>
